LAZO

Tied together.

The tradition behind our name

What Is the Lazo?

Midway through many Mexican, Filipino, and Spanish wedding ceremonies, after the vows have been spoken, something quietly beautiful happens. Family members — often the couple's padrinos, their chosen godparents for the marriage — step forward carrying a single long cord. Sometimes it's a strand of flowers, sometimes a beaded rope, often an oversized rosary. They loop it gently around the shoulders of the couple in the shape of a figure eight: one loop for each person, joined at the center.

That cord is el lazo — the lasso — and the figure eight is no accident. Turned on its side, it's the symbol of infinity. Two separate lives, bound into one unending shape. The couple wears it through the rest of the ceremony, through the prayers and the blessing, physically tied together as they hear the words that make them family. When it's lifted away, it's kept — draped over a mirror, framed on a wall, passed down — a keepsake of the exact moment two people became one.

The lazo doesn't create the bond. It makes the bond visible.

Where the tradition comes from

The lazo ceremony has roots in Spanish Catholic practice and grew into one of the most beloved traditions of Mexican and Filipino weddings, alongside las arras (the thirteen coins) and the veil ceremony. Today couples of every background borrow it, because what it says needs no translation: marriage is a binding. Chosen, celebrated, witnessed, and meant to hold.

Why we named our company Lazo

We build a wedding marketplace, and we could have named it anything. We chose the lazo because the tradition is everything we believe about weddings — and everything we think wedding platforms forgot.

A wedding is a set of bonds. The couple's, first and always. But also the bonds a couple forms with the people who make the day real — the photographer they trust with memories that can't be reshot, the planner who holds the whole day in her head, the venue where it all happens. Those relationships deserve to be built on something true.

That's why every review on Lazo comes from a verified couple who actually held their wedding with that vendor. Why every claimed profile belongs to a verified owner. And why our rankings can never be bought — not with ads, not with subscriptions, not at any price. The bond between a couple and their vendors should be tied with a true cord.
